Books About Disability for Kids & Teens

September 29, 2021 at 11:30 AM by

26% of adults in the United States live with some type of disability. That's 61 million people! But it can be hard to find that reflected in the books we read. This month the KPL Youth Services Librarians put together a list of great titles for kids and teens that highlight the histories, cultures, experiences, and perspectives of people with disabilities, including physical or cognitive disabilities, chronic illnesses, and neurodivergence.

Look for displays in each of the Youth Service Areas of our branches that feature more fiction and nonfiction titles about disability! Looking for socially distanced options? Reserve some books from our booklist, or request a Mystery Bag and we will select some books for you! Call 262-564-6150 or email refdesk@mykpl.info with your library card number and what you’d like for your child. Curbside pickup available!
