NEA Big Read Inspired KPL To Go Boxes

Since COVID hit, KPL’s Youth & Family Services staff has been working hard to provide the widely popular KPL To Go Box programs for area children, teens, and families. They’ve been tons of fun for staff and library users alike, and we’re incredibly excited to bring a whole new batch of this year’s NEA Big Read-inspired To Go Boxes to you this March! 

Registration is required for all KPL To Go Boxes. Boxes are available for pick up at our Southwest and Northside locations beginning on the dates listed below. Click the corresponding “register here” links for more information about each box.


March 6th:
KPL Kids To Go: Worms (Ages 0-5)
All of the worm fun without the dirt (you're welcome, adults)! Dig for felt worms, paint with yarn worms, and make a squishy-squashy worm treat! Register here, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, February 27th.

KPL Teens To Go: Seed Bombs (Ages 12-19)
Get ready to add some more beauty to the world and spread some plant love when growing season finally arrives! Learn how to make your own seed bombs full of Wisconsin native plant seeds, and learn tips and tricks for using them. Register here, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, February 27th.

March 13th: 
KPL Kids To Go: Exploring Trees (Ages 5-12)
Make nature portraits on tree trunks and find out why trees are true wonders of nature. Register here, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, March 6th.

KPL Family Night Box: Rainbow Science (Families with Children)
Fascinated by color and light? Explore the world of rainbows with some magical experiments at home! Register here, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, March 6th.

March 20th:
KPL Kids To Go: Seed Art (Ages 0-5)
Let’s turn seeds into flowers without all the dirt, water, and time. We’ll use salt-dough to make seed masterpieces. Register here, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, March 13th.

KPL Teens To Go: Plant Prints (Ages 12-19)
Create bold plant prints using simple printmaking techniques. We provide all the materials you need to learn how to plan, carve, and finish an eye-catching masterpiece. This can be a messy project so make sure you dress for a mess and cover your surfaces. Register here, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, March 13th.

March 27th: *Only one box this week
KPL Family Night: Enchanted Forest (Families with Children)
Escape to an enchanted forest where you'll find (and make!) flower petal fairies and garden gnome planter pals. Create and decorate a light-up toadstool mushroom home for your new forest friends to live in while your family makes magical memories together. Register here, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, March 20th.
