National Poetry Month Contest for Kids & Teens

April is National Poetry Month and in celebration, Kenosha Public Library is hosting its annual Poetry Contest! This year's theme is "Home.”

Who is eligible?

Poets are eligible in four categories:

  • Ages 5-9

  • Ages 9-12

  • Ages 12-19

9 and 12-year-olds may choose which category they would prefer.

What do I have to do?

Write a poem, with the idea of “Home” as the inspiration. The poem can be any style or form, but must fit on one page.

The poem must be your own original work.  Entries that are reworkings of published poems will not be accepted.

Turn in your poem through the form HERE before 9 PM on Thursday, April 30th.

What are the prizes?

Winners in each category will receive a certificate, redeemable for a free book at any KPL branch, once the buildings reopen!

Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, quality of writing, and adherence to contest guidelines.  We read every poem submitted, but unfortunately, we cannot call everyone to notify them of their poem’s status.  Only authors of winning poems will be contacted.

Winners will be notified by Friday, May 8th.
