April is National Poetry Month and in celebration, Kenosha Public Library is hosting its annual Poetry Contest! This year's theme is "Acrostic Poems!"
Who is eligible?
Students are eligible in four categories:
- Grades K-2
- Grades 3-5
- Grades 6-8
- Grades 9-12
What do I have to do?
- Write an acrostic poem (the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase). The poem must fit on one page.
- The poem must be your own original work and, if possible, typed. Entries that are reworkings of published poems will not be accepted.
- Turn in your poem and entry form (click HERE or pick up at your local branch) before 9 PM on Tuesday, April 30th.
What are the prizes?
Gift cards will be awarded to the first, second, and third place poems in each category.
Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, quality of writing, and adherence to contest guidelines. Entries will not be returned, so please make a copy of your creation before turning in your poem! We read every poem submitted, but unfortunately, we cannot call everyone to notify them of their poem’s status. Only authors of winning poems will be contacted.
Winners will be notified by Tuesday, May 7th.
