Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a borrowing privilege available through the library for those with a valid KCLS library card. This service allows customers to borrow materials or copies of articles that are not available though our regular library catalog from other libraries including public and academic libraries.

Beginning January 1, 2011, KPL customers who use interlibrary loan must be a registered borrower in good standing at KPL who reside or own property in Kenosha County. Customers from other Wisconsin counties are no longer permitted to submit interlibrary loan requests through KPL. Users from another county should submit their interlibrary loan requests through their local library.

Requests for ILL can be submitted in person at any Information Desk or by calling (262) 564-6130. You can also use WorldCat, the worldwide library catalog produced by the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). WorldCat allows a simple or advanced search and will tailor results to local state or zip code to show nearby libraries owning the item as well as links to their catalogs to check on the item's status. Click here for our Interlibrary Loan Policy.

When requesting items through ILL, please note the following:
  • We cannot request materials that have been in publication for less than 1 year.
  • You cannot request Feature DVDs, videocassettes, or television programs on DVD.
  • You may not request items that are listed in our Katalog.
  • You can only request 5 items per day.
  • Your account will be blocked if you fail to pick up the requested ILL item(s) three times or more.
  • The loan period for ILL materials is determined by the lending library.
  • The charge for overdue ILL materials is $1.00 per day.
  • You will be charged $50 for each lost or damaged ILL item.
  • You cannot renew ILL items.
  • You will receive a phone call when your item is available unless you have indicated that you only want notification by mail.
Delivery of Interlibrary loan items can take from 1-8 weeks, depending on the location of the item, its availability at the lending library and the lending library’s response time. Some items may not be available for borrowing. Allow adequate lead-time if you need your material by a certain date when making a request. ILL staff will notify you by email or letter if your request cannot be borrowed. Please call Interlibrary Loan at 262-564-6312 if you no longer need the item requested.

If you still can’t find the item you are looking for after consulting the Katalog or WorldCat, feel free to suggest a purchase.
